Mold after water damage in Spokane

a technician checking moisture beside drying equipment in a modest home.

Wet drywall, carpet pad, and insulation are where mold shows up after a leak if they stay damp. Drying is the water job. Cleanup of growth that is already visible is a different scope. Spokane Water Damage Co does not dry buildings and does not remove mold. We refer water-damage requests, including notes that mention a musty smell or visible growth after a leak.

Dry it, or the growth gets a head start

EPA's Brief Guide to Mold, Moisture, and Your Home tells people to act quickly after a leak or spill. The guide says that if wet or damp materials are dried within 24 to 48 hours, mold will not grow in most cases. That is general public guidance, not a timer we enforce and not a promise about one house. If materials have already been wet longer than that, say so. Hidden cavities, behind a wall or under a floor, can stay wet after the surface looks dry.

EPA's mold cleanup page uses about 10 square feet, roughly a 3-by-3-foot patch, as the size under which a homeowner can often handle cleanup themselves, with larger areas pointed toward professional help. That is EPA's size note, not a rule from this site. Describe the area in ordinary terms: a spot the size of a book, a closet wall, a whole basement.

A separate site for mold questions

For mold-specific reading in this area, see Spokane Mold Co. That site is separate from this one. If you want a water-damage request shared with up to 3 independent providers, use the form here and mention the mold in the note. Sending the form does not sign you up for mold removal, and it does not mean Spokane Mold Co is one of the providers.

Cost, as an estimate only

Angi's flooded basement article, updated October 14, 2026, lists mold remediation as an add-on often falling around $500 to $6,000 nationally, depending on how much is affected. That figure is theirs, it is a national estimate, and it is not a fee from this referral. Drying the water and dealing with mold can be two invoices from two companies. See the cost and insurance page for the water ranges and for the caution that many homeowners policies limit mold coverage or cover it only after a covered sudden leak.

What we will not claim

We do not claim an IICRC certification, a mold license, a shop address, or a number of years in business. We do not perform the work, so those credentials are not ours to hold. If a contractor opens walls or replaces finishes, ask for their Washington L&I registration and confirm it on the state verify tool. We do not check it.

Many policies cover mold only in a narrow case, often when it follows a covered sudden leak, and many put a separate lower limit on it. The declarations page controls. We do not interpret policies.
